The company states its volume per year, more than 5 trillion; divide by 365 days and you have the daily figure, and divide again by 86,400 seconds for this site’s companion question at around 159,000 a second. When two questions ask the same thing in different units, the conversion is the whole answer and neither needs to be recalled separately.

The provenance is better than it used to be. For years the widely quoted numbers were reconstructions from old disclosures and advertising data; this one comes from the company itself, stated per year and as a floor — more than 5 trillion. The daily figure is arithmetic on that statement rather than a separate disclosure, so it inherits the same shape: treat it as a lower bound, not a precise count. People who remember the older estimates guess well short.

The novelty statistic remains the most interesting thing attached to it: around fifteen percent of daily queries have never been searched before by anyone. At this volume, after decades of operation, one query in seven is still new — which means the space of things people want to know is not being exhausted but is expanding at least as fast as it is being explored.
