How tall is the Burj Khalifa, in feet?

Cities easy Data from 2010

Guess before you scroll — the answer is below

In feet. Thousands: 1.000 · Decimals: 1,5 · Millions: 9m.

The answer

2,717 feet

Roughly 2.7K.

The Burj Khalifa stands 2,717 feet (828 metres) — nearly twice the height of the Empire State Building and still the tallest structure in the world more than a decade after opening. It has 163 usable floors. Jeddah Tower, if it is ever finished, would be the first building past 1,000 metres.

How to get close to this number

The explanation gives the metric height, so this is a unit conversion: multiply metres by about three point three. Any question asking for a famous dimension in an unfamiliar unit is a conversion problem, and converting from the figure you know is safer than recalling the one you do not.

The comparison is the useful calibration: nearly twice the Empire State Building. Anchoring one landmark against another is how tall-building questions become tractable, and this site's companion question gives the other half of the pair directly.

The record's durability is the interesting part: still the tallest more than a decade after opening, which is unusual in a category that changed hands repeatedly through the twentieth century. The next contender would be the first building past a kilometre, and it has been stalled for years — records stop falling when the next step requires solving a genuinely new problem.
