In steps. Thousands: 1.000 · Decimals: 1,5 · Millions: 9m.

The answer

1,665 steps

Roughly 1.7K.

The Eiffel Tower has 1,665 steps in total from the ground to the very top. Visitors can only climb the first 674 of them, up to the second floor — the final stretch to the summit is elevator-only, closed to stair traffic since the tower was built.

How to get close to this number

Divide height by step rise. The tower is around three hundred metres to the top, and a staircase step rises somewhere between fifteen and twenty centimetres. Three hundred metres divided by a fifth of a metre gives roughly fifteen hundred, which is the right region.

The public access detail is the practical part: visitors may climb only the first several hundred steps, to the second floor, and the final stretch is lift-only. So the total step count and the climbable step count are different numbers, and the one people experience is under half the total.

That split is a safety and throughput decision rather than a structural one. The upper section is a narrow spiral, and the Eiffel Tower visitor question on this site shows why throughput matters — a monument bounded by how fast it can process a queue cannot allow a slow, narrow staircase at its busiest point.
